This is one for someone who wants to cover the world famous Machu Picchu and also loves nature and animals!

I'm inviting others to join me. Dates indicated here are the actual start dates of the tour. Dates aren't changeable as I've already confirmed this trip. I'll share my flight plan if anyone is interested. 

LIMA - CUZCO – MACHU PICCHU – AMAZON – LAKE TITICACA - AREQUIPA – COLCA CANYON -QUITO – GALAPAGOS ISLANDS

Day 1 Sept 26. LIMA – no meals today
As you arrive into Lima airport just after midnight and exit customs and baggage, you will be warmly welcomed and assisted with your luggage before driven to your hotel, the Tambo 2.

After breakfast at 09.15 -09.30am group visit of colonial and modern Lima, starting in the centre of this vibrant, metropolis. The tour will include a visit of the cathedral, dating from 1654 which still houses the remains of the conquistador Pizarro in the foyer; the Main Square, with the original bronze fountain built in 1650, the Government Palace where the President has his official residence and the San Francisco Convent, with its famous catacombs. Lima, known as the city of the kings, was founded in 1535 by Pizarro and after several devastating earthquakes was rebuilt in 1991; the same year that UNESCO declared

Lima a world heritage site. Return to your hotel at 12 noon.

Day 2 Sept 27. LIMA - CUZCO (Breakfast)
After breakfast, with boarding passes in hand, you will be driven to the airport(about 7am) for your quick-check-in and brief one hour flight to Cuzco, the ancient Inca capital of the Incas. In Cuzco, you will be warmly welcomed and assisted with your luggage before your short drive to your hotel, the Imperial.

In the early afternoon, at about 13.30 enjoy an incredible tour of Cuzco including the Qoricancha temple or temple of the Sun, the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman overlooking Cuzco city, Qenko, Tambomachay and Puka Pukara. Return to the hotel ay 17.45

Day 3 Sept 28. CUZCO - MACHU PICCHU (Breakfast)
Today you will have an early start and enjoy breakfast before your 07.30 am Vistadome train to Aguas Calientes train station, gateway to the lost city of the Incas.

As you disembark, about 11am you will be assisted with your luggage and check-in to your hotel, El Sanctuario.

Shortly after, your guide will again lead you on a guided tour of Machu Picchu, the most spectacular ancient city in the world at about 12 noon. Built by the Inca Pachacutec, and comprising stone blocks fitted with masterful precision, Machu Picchu harmoniously blends into the mountain landscape. There are many theories as to the origins behind Machu Picchu but three of the most popular ideas include a temple to the sun, a fortress against the jungle inhabitants or a sanctuary for the Incas. This fabulous city has houses, temples, warehouses, a large central square, all connected by narrow roads and steps, and is surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side which were used for agriculture.

The tour will end at about 15.00.

Day 4 Sept 29. MACHU PICCHU – CUZCO (Breakfast)
Today you will have an opportunity to return to Machu Picchu with your guide for an opportunity to see the site at sunrise at 6am. Take any of the several paths around various parts of the site. Visit parts not visited yesterday and let Machu Picchu unfold all its mysteries for you, take in the breathtaking cloud forests and jagged mountains, or marvel at the extraordinary Masonic precision of the ancient Incas. Return to Cuzco in the afternoon at 15.30, arrive at 19.30 and transfer to your hotel.

Day 5 Sept 30. CUZCO – PUERTO MALDONADO-TAMBOPATA JUNGLE (Breakfast, lunch & dinner)
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the 9am flight to Puerto Maldonado. Reception and transfer (about 10am) to the Tambopata River port in Puerto Maldonado for the canoe trip to your jungle lodge. After arrival (about 12 noon)a short orientation and a complete briefing on the lodge before visiting a 35 metre scaffolding tower for a spectacular view of the river, the surrounding forest and an opportunity to observe birds from the canopy including parrots, toucans and macaws. Return to the lodge at 17.00

Day 6 Oct 1. TAMBOPATA JUNGLE (Breakfast, lunch & dinner)
Early wake at dawn 5am for a visit to the Tres Chimbadas oxbow lake. Here we will take a long, easy canoe ride around the lake looking for giant river otters, turtles, hoatzin, and wading birds. The giant river otters that are seen in Tres Chimbadas belong to a resident family of nine. Return to the lodge for lunch at 11.30am before embarking on your afternoon outing to the community’s ethno botanical center. We will hike the trails around the centre with one of the residents who will explain the everyday uses of forest resources in medicine, construction, food and fiber. Return to your lodge at 17.30

Day 7 Oct 2. TAMBOPATA JUNGLE – CUZCO (Breakfast)
After an early breakfast departure by boat at 6am back to the city of Puerto Maldonado, directly to the airport, for your return flight to Cuzco. Transfer to your hotel, the Imperial. Free day.

Day 8 Oct 3. CUZCO – PUNO (Breakfast & lunch)
After early breakfast, 07.00 transfer to bus terminal for the tourist bus to Puno at 08.00. This trip will begin by ascending gradually out of the Cuzco Valley until arriving at the town of Andahuaylillas where you will visit the “Sistine Chapel of the Andes”. This colonial era Chapel features mainly interesting canvasses which illustrate the use of Andean Symbology being incorporated into traditional Catholic images. From here you will travel further to Raqchi which is the tallest set of Incan Ruins.
The road from here climbs slightly to La Raya which is the highest point at 4200 m. There will be a brief stop here and there are views across to the snow-capped mountain peak.
From here the road gradually descends to Pukara where you will visit the museum and ruins of this pre-incan civilisation. This civilisation was said to be at its peak around the same time as Mesopotamia and Egypt and the leader was known as the “Great Beheader”.
From this visit you will continue to Puno, arriving at 17.00, situated on the edge of Lake Titicaca. Lunch will be buffet at a restaurant during the trip. Lying on the shores of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake. Transfer to your hotel, the Casa Andina Classic.

Day 9 Oct 4. ISLANDS OF LAKE TITICACA (Breakfast only)
After breakfast, pick-up at 07.00 to start your full day’s excursion to the islands of Uros and Taquile. Your first stop will be to the communal islands of Uros, otherwise known as the reed islands, whose islands are made entirely of tortora reeds and home to a small community dating back to a pre-Inca culture. You will appreciate how these people toil out an existence on such a remote setting complete with its own school. After the visit, boarding of the yacht as you continue your trip to the Island of Taquile whose inhabitants are more closely related to the Aymara people of Bolivia than the Quechua Incas of Peru. You will enjoy a walk on the islands before returning to Puno at 16.00 on-board your yacht and return to your hotel.

Day 10 Oct 5. PUNO – COLCA CANYON (Breakfast only)
After breakfast, at 08.00 take the tourist bus to the Colca Canyon. You will pass through the National Reserve of Pampa de Cañahuas (3,800m), where groups of alpacas, vicuñas and sometimes guanacos can be seen. After several more hours, the descent to the Colca Valley starts until we arrive at Chivay, about 11am, the most important town of the valley. This trip will be with other passengers on the bus. Arrival, reception and transfer to your hotel.

Day 11 Oct 6. COLCA CANYON – AREQUIPA (Breakfast only)
Early breakfast at the hotel at 06.00. Then an early departure to Cruz del Condor viewpoint, a few kilometers before Cabanaconde, where the Colca Canyon starts. Here one gets a fine view of the flight of the condors as well as of the depth of the canyon. In the afternoon return to Arequipa at about 16.00 and to your hotel.

Day 12 Oct 7. AREQUIPA – LIMA - GUAYAQUIL (Breakfast & in-flight lunch)
After early breakfast, we bid farewell to Arequipa and take a short drive in a private car to the airport in time for your return flight to Lima and your connecting international flight to Guayaquil. In-flight lunch. As you arrive into Guayaquil airport and exit customs and baggage, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative. You will be assisted with your luggage before escorted to your hotel.

Day 13 Oct 8. GUAYAQUIL – GALAPAGOS ISLANDS (Breakfast & dinner) Itinerary subject to change
After breakfast, at 06.00 with boarding passes in hand, you will be driven to the airport for your quick-check-in and flight to Baltra Island on the Galapagos Islands. Arrival, reception and welcome. Your Galapagos fee will be collected here. You will collect your luggage before you take your transfer to the port and boarding of the Eden Vessel or similar at 13.30 for an unforgettable wildlife adventure. After an introductory talk, your Galapagos expedition begins with a visit to La Galapaguera to observe giant turtles. The day is concluded with a visit to the Loberia highlands at 17.00.

Day 14 Oct 9. SANTA FE – SOUTH PLAZAS ISLAND (All meals)
A visit today to Santa Fe at 07.00, home to a beautiful turquoise lagoon with two small beaches and where you can view numerous sea lions. Taking a trail along the coast and through an Opuntia Forest where these prickly pear cacti are the largest on the Galapagos. We will also see Santa Fe land iguanas. After the hike, a swim or snorkel in the bay in the company of sea lions. Continue onto South Plaza, one of the smallest islands and only 130 metres wide and just 800 metres long. Here there is a large colony of sea lions, with over 1,000 occupying the smooth rocks. The small cactus forest is populated by land iguanas, where they can be seen sunning themselves or feeding on Opuntia pads and fruits. Along the cliff edge nesting swallow-tailed gulls are the predominant seabirds, along with tropic birds.

Day 15 October 10. ESPAÑOLA – GARDNER BAY – PUNTA SUAREZ (All meals)
A visit to the isolated Española at 07.00 where there is a high percentage of endemic fauna. Gardner Bay, on the eastern shore has a magnificent beach. The beach is frequented by sea lions, and is a major nesting site for marine turtles. Around the small islets nearby, snorkelers will come across many species of fish, turtles and perhaps even sharks. On a trail leading to the western part of the island, several nesting sites of the waved albatros will be encountered. These huge birds nest here from April to December. Finally at Punta Suarez, along with many nesting seabirds there are mockingbirds, Galapagos doves and Galapagos hawks. Several types of reptile, including the marine iguana and the lava lizard, are also inhabitants of the island. Here you may also see a spectacular blowhole, which shoots spray 30 metres into the air.

Day 16 October 11. SAN CRISTOBAL – GUAYAQUIL (Breakfast)
The last day, we follow in the path of Charles Darwin and navigate close by Kicker Rock, a small islet whose cliffs are home to many sea birds. A visit to the Interpretation Centre at Puerto Baquerizo Moreno before arriving to Puerto Baquerizo Moreno for the transfer to the airport and return flight to Guayaquil. Arrival and transfer to your hotel.

Day 17 Oct 12. GUAYAQUIL (Breakfast only)

After breakfast transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
