“The raw beauty and majesty of the mountains are always an inspiration to me. I never cease to be amazed whenever I walk up one. Sometimes sitting and immersing myself in their presence is enough. I live for these opportunities.”

Climb Mount Fuji - the tallest mountain in Japan at 3,776m!

For some of us, that is on our bucket list and this will be an opportunity to do it.
The mountain, which is an active volcano, is basically a trek up with clearly marked trails. Thousands flocked to this summit every year, tourists as well as locals. In fact, a lot of the locals do this more than once in their lifetime, as the area is regarded as a pilgrimage site. We will be dong this trek with a qualified guide from a local company and even a beginner hiker is welcomed to join this trek. All you need is heart, spirit, and a never-say-die attitude!

We will hopefully avoid the crowds as we planned to climb it on 1st July, right at the start of the Fuji climbing season. The huge numbers on the mountain usually start in mid July.

Check out the video:

While the focus of this tour is on summiting Mount Fuji, we will actually have the chance to also cover a couple of interesting and naturally tranquil places, and visit a few non-touristy spots in Tokyo, away from the crowds, and see a different side of Tokyo - all of this with the help of local guides who will bring us on privately organised tours. Refer to the highlights section.

Mount Fuji and Lake Yamanaka

Mount Fuji, also called Fuji-san, is an active volcano and the tallest peak in Japan at 3,776m. Every year in summer, thousands of locals and tourist alike will summit this mountain, which has been a pilgrimage site for centuries. It will be a truly awesome experience for us to make the ascend of this sacred peak. Lake Yamanaka is one of the five lakes around Fuji-san, and it is the largest of the five lakes. There are lots of summer and resort houses around the lake and it has one of the best views of Mount Fuji. Along with the swans on the lake, tulips and sunflowers in full bloom during spring and summer in Yamanaka village, add to the beauty and tranquility of this area.

Lake Motosu

One of the Five Lakes in the Mount Fuji region. It is the deepest and third largest of the five. The other three lakes that make up the five are, Lake Kawaguchi, Lake Shoji, and Lake Saiko. We will be visiting all five lakes during our tour.

Aokigahara forest

The Aokigahara forest is near Lake Shoji, one of the five lakes near Mount Fuji. It came into existence more than 1,100 years ago after the last eruption, when a forest grew up from the hardened lava. It is also known as the Sea of Trees. The porous lava floor of the forest absorbs sound and creates a sense of solitude for the visitor. It has the ancient reputation for being a home to yurei - ghosts of the dead in Japanese mythology. In recent times, it became internationally known as "The Suicide Forest" as it became one of the world's most prevalent suicide sites.

This tour is for all levels of hikers. It is designed by the local operator to ensure that even a beginner hiker will be able to reach the summit.

If the group so desires, we can meet for walks or hikes prior to tour to develop some physical fitness.

Apart from the Mount Fuji Summit tour, the other tours are run by local independent guides and we will be led by them on their respective tours as an organised private group - the Tokyo Night Tour, Tokyo Day Tour and the Mount Fuji area excursion. The tours are operated using public transport and each one of us is responsible for our own train or bus fares. This is a cost-effective measure as the public transport system in Japan is so efficient and available. This total transport cost is estimated to be $40 to $55 for all three tours.
