Highlights

What do you think of when someone mentions Provence or the French Rivera? I think of a slow pace where you have time to appreciate the good things in life; cheese, wine, spectacular scenery, art, and poetry. All this while immersed in a culture that is rooted in the Roman empire.

Carcassone is a medieval fortified city constructed between the 13th and 14th centuries with the original structures dating as far back as the Roman period. Although the 53 towers and barbicans are picturesque - they have a utilitarian past - they were built for defending against siege engines during the often violent medieval era.
