"I'm a lil' bit country, I'm a lil' bit rock and roll..." Those of you who know this tune might be surprised that Donny and Marie just ended their 11-year Las Vegas residency in November last year. After 1,730 performances at the iconic Flamingo in Las Vegas, they call it a day on 16th November 2019.

Well, this tour is curated for someone who likes a little bit of country and a little bit of rock and roll. While you're someone who likes to see the country and admire the beautiful outdoors, you're also someone who enjoy the modern city sights, people, entertainment, and shopping.

What this tour is about

On this tour, we'll be visiting the iconic cities of San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, and touring the beautiful national parks of Yosemite, Death Valley, Bryce Canyon, and Zion, with stops going through the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, the Antelope Canyon, and Horseshoe Bend.

This exciting, fun-filled and multi-faceted tour will have us enjoying the 3 great iconic cities of the US on guided tours and hop-on hop-off tours, taking a locally guided tour each of Yosemite National Park and Death Valley National Park, riding the Amtrak train, and driving our very own 6-day Road Trip to Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Bryce Canyon National Park, and Zion National Park.

Destinations below are in the order of the itinerary

San Francisco - Golden Gate Bridge, Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, Lombard Street, Nob Hill, Muir Woods, Sausalito, and many other famous sights.

Yosemite National Park - Glacier Point, Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, High Country, Bridalveil Falls, El Capitan, Yosemite Chapel, and Sentinel Bridge. We will see all of Yosemite Park on a 10-h tour that other bigger commercial tourist coaches won't get to see.

Los Angeles - Hollywood sign, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica Boulevard, Rodeo Drive, Venice Beach, Sunset Strip, The Grove Farmers' Market, and other famous LA's landmarks. This exciting Hop-on Hop-off bus tour is entirely at our own pace and leisure.

Las Vegas - the "Entertainment Capital of the World": catch the many different Cirque de Soleils, magic shows, comedy shows, concerts, and variety shows, and shop at the various outlet malls.

Death Valley National Park - Artists' Drive, Dante's View, Ubehebe Crater, Golden Canyon, Red Cathedral, Devil's Golf Course, Natural Bridge, and Badwater Road.

The 6-day Road Trip
Grand Canyon
- Viewpoints on the South Rim: Mather Point, Yavapai Point, Grandview Point, Desert View Watchtower, and many others.

Lower Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend - guided tour inside Lower Antelope Canyon, and enjoy our very own sunset view strolling along the rim of Horseshoe Bend.

Bryce Canyon National Park - Sunrise Point, Sunset Point, Inspiration Point, Bryce Point, Rainbow Point, Yovimpa Point, Natural Bridge Point, and many other view points.

Zion National Park -
Canyon Overlook, Pa'rus River, Taylor Creek, Emerald Pools, Weeping Wall, Angel's Landing (optional)

Bonus: The Wave Hike
- if we win the lottery permit for this hike

If we're lucky enough, we'll also get to hike The Wave Trail (scroll down to see picture of The Wave Trail). The Wave was made famous in July 2009, when Microsoft's Windows 7 introduced the world to its beautiful desktop wallpaper which is The Wave, in Arizona. Since then, many people have sought to travel to Arizona looking to hike the trail to see The Wave. The authorities decided that it will only limit the number of hikers to 20 persons per day on this trail to preserve the integrity and beauty of The Wave. There were over 168,000 applications for the permit in 2018 and only about 7,000 people were allowed access -  so there's about a 4% chance to get this permit. We will apply for the permit, and take oiur chances. Application for the permit is in July this year.

Please note that we can only apply for a maximum 6 persons in our group for the permit. So the first 6 persons who sign up for this tour gets priority to do the hike - if we win the lottery permit. The cost of the lottery draw and permit is about $20 per person.

Lower Antelope Canyon

This shot was taken in November 2019 when this highly popular Lower Antelope Canyon has fewer tourists and a shot like this, with nobody around is exceptional. (there's two Antelope Canyon. The other one's called.......you guess it right, Upper Antelope Canyon!) On my tours, I always favour going on the shoulder season where you still catch the best weather and scenery, and have the fewest tourists around to get the best shots. Typically, this shot in the regular season, is virtually impossible as there will be too many people going past you from the front and back. :) For our tour in November this year, you'll get the same opportunity for great shots!

Lower Antelope Canyon

So I couldn't resist just sharing one shot of this canyon, especially with views like this, you can imagine, the hundreds of shots I took on this 1-hr walk. Everywhere you turn, there's something different and more amazing than the one before. Maybe not more amazing, but different, and its the novelty of each new appearance that just makes you want to take a shot, or shots. Again, this shot is not possible if you have people very near you, photo-bombing your shots =:) Join this tour, that we're doing on the shoulder season, to take shots like these.

San Francisco - Harbour front and Golden Gate Bridge

(Image credit: Pexels from Pixabay) Everybody knows this bridge - the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. If you've haven't seen it yet, this is your chance. San Francisco is the first stop on our tour. In our day and a half here, we'll do an exciting walking city tour, visit Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate Bridge (of course!), Nob Hill, Marina District, Union Square, Pacific Heights, Haight/Ashbury, Chinatown, North Beach, Lombard Street and many other well-known parts of San Francisco. We'll get a close and intimate look at all these spots and learnt interesting facts about them with an experienced local guide. Back in my Uni days, when I was in San Francisco one summer, I considered it my best-ever city because of its colours, street food, people, buskers of every type with their clever, witty, and funny performances, musicians and bands on the streets, and the whole lively atmosphere. I remember saying to myself that I will always come back here! I'm sure it haven't lost its charm!

Los Angeles - Hollywood!

(Image credit: David Mark from Pixabay) Los Angeles is Hollywood. This sign says it all. The rich and famous, the stars, the glamorous life, shops, restaurants, and celebrities, is most of what you get in Los Angeles. This is the city where lots of famous Hollywood stars live, and where every year, the Oscars are held in February. This is Movie town! We will spent a day in this city doing an exciting exploration of all the famous spots on our own with the city's Hop-on Hop-off tour. We will visit Hollywood Walk of Fame, Sunset Strip, The Grove Farmers Market, Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica Boulevard, Venice Beach, Muscle Beach, and many, many more. And for dinner, you might want to splurge on some Michelin-star restaurant like a Gordon Ramsey, or just look for food trucks where there could be some interesting and affordable street food.

Yosemite National Park

(Image credit: David Mark from Pixabay) We will take a tour of this beautiful National Park in between our time in San Francisco and Los Angeles. This full day tour will be special as we will get to Glacier Point - a lookout spot in the park where all commercial coaches are not able to access. Our small group van will give us this exclusive access! From Glacier Point, we may have the option of hiking down to the valley, a distance of 8km and about 1,000m elevation loss. It will certainly be an amazing walk with brilliant views as we descend. Let's hope we get the option to do that. Of course, if you're not up for the hike, you can choose to take your time to admire the views from Glacier Point and later on, be driven down to the valley to meet the hiking group.

Las Vegas

After Los Angeles, we will take a flight to Las Vegas - the closest city where we can comfortably embark on our road trip to the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, and two of Utah's best National Parks - Bryce Canyon and Zion. But first let's enjoy the glamorous Las Vegas! This is where we will be able to take in the lights and the glitz of the spectacular shows of Cirque de Soleil, magic shows, comedy shows, and concerts. Or you might like to try your hand at one of the slot machines :)

Death Valley National Park - from Las Vegas

So it will not be all glitz and glamour when we're in Las Vegas. Death Valley National Park is the hottest, driest and lowest NP in the USA. We will do a full day tour from Las Vegas making a 2-hour drive to get there. Among some of the things we'll see are: Badwater Basin (86m below sea level) and the salt flats; Artists Drive with its coloured rocks of yellows, pinks, and greens; and Dante's View on the top of Black Mountains for a spectacular view of Death Valley.

The Grand Canyon - great beast of peace

The first time I saw the Grand Canyon, more than 20 years ago, I was truly mesmerized. A group of us, guys and gals, on our summer break, rented a 7-passenger van and drove down from Canada which was some 21 hours away, and probably took us 2-days to arrive. I must say, at the time, I was transfixed, as I sit and watched this canyon and felt the utter stillness and silence of this magnificent hole in the ground. :) Of course, it was difficult at times to ignore the jostling people around me (it was in the middle of July, I remember the heat was terrible, and I was shirtless), but I did went on to look for a spot far from the madding crowd to sit and stare at this great beast of peace. I'm sure when we get there this November, you'll find your spot quite easily.

The Wave Trail, Arizona

(Image credit: David Mark from Pixabay) This hiking trail in Arizona is called The Wave - you can see why. If we get to do this hike, it's as good as striking lottery, literally. This hike in Kanab, about 1 hour from our night's stay in Page, Arizona, only allows 20 people a day to trek through. It is to protect the fragile ecosystem and environment of this very special trail. So the authorities at the National Park conducts a lottery to select the 20 lucky people to go on this trail. So you can imagine the hype that is created with this lottery draw. In the peak summer season, it is said you can get literally hundreds of people eyeing for that 20 spots. Anyway, we'll try our luck as well, since we'll be in the vicinity, and who knows, we might be the lucky ones! (keep your fingers crossed!) Hike information: The hike is just over 8km, is mostly flat with elevation gain about 130m, and will take about 3 - 4 hours.

Inspiration Point - Bryce Canyon National Park

My first reaction when I arrived at Inspiration Point in Bryce Canyon National Park is to think, "oh my, this is jaw-dropping amazing!" I suppose looking at those spires of the hoodoos just makes me associate them with teeth and I guess that's how my mind works :) I was here in Bryce in November 2019 and we had only so much time to drive to every lookout point in this park and take in all that spectacular rock formations. This time, if we don't strike lottery (see previous highlight), we'll have more time and could take a casual stroll along the rim of this great canyon and slowly enjoy the views. Any which way, we'll not miss any of the magnificence of Bryce, it's just whether we'll do it by drive, or by stride.

Zion National Park

Just going by memory, I would record this as my best morning walk in my life so far. Seriously! Our plan that November morning was to leave Zion and head for Bryce Canyon NP as early as we could, since we wanted to see quite a bit of Bryce. I thought we could do a brisk morning walk and then leave, but my plan had to be thrown out the window. That morning was too beautiful for words. The crisp air, the gentle light, the autumn colours, the serenity of the place (almost devoid of other people), and the sounds of the flowing stream, deers rustling in the bushes and the occasional chirping of birds nearby, just made this morning in Zion so amazingly perfect! The brisk walk quickly turned into a casual stroll, as the three of us got caught up with the gorgeous scene that surrounded us, and calm our haste to leave this sanctuary behind. It was a truly memorable morning for me!

Gorgeous morning in Zion National Park

This is the morning I will remember for a long time!

Zion National Park- what a great morning!

Last, but not the least of my shots of this great morning!

Daniel was amazing in accommodating everyone's requests. We had so much fun that we even did some impromptu trips outside the schedule which was so much fun! I am going back with Daniel to Iceland and already looking forward to that trip. 3PG has now become part of my travel schedule every year. There is at least 1-2 trips I plan with them. I really appreciate Georgina and team for this wonderful initiative. It is really incredible to make people from different background feel not only comfortable but enjoy the trip to the full extent if not more. I will very very highly recommend 3PG but with Daniel even more so :-) Read less

At the end of the tour,. I think we got more than what we bargained for.. perhaps that is the beauty of small private tour group. We can have options. The amazing Bolivia salt flat Uyuni with so many untold secrets.. Felt truly blessed to have visited this place. Oh.. we missed out the Inca hiking activity when we booked the tour and realised it only at subsequent tour briefing. It was tough, but feel great overcoming the challenge with 8 hours hike. We have fun together as a group tackling this task. We squeezed a lot more much waking time. During the tour. Evident in total of more than 17 flights just to shorten travelling time. We have food (both good & bad), interesting experience, and great fun as a group of six adventurers and one Daniel Goh. Especially with our exchange rate. I think most of us will find it very hard to have a similar holiday trip for a long time to come. It is really one of its kind with good memories to last for a pretty long time. As least for me, I feel very blessed to have my bucket list with South America fulfilled in 2019 in such fun, such fashion and such great companions started off as total strangers and we can be crazy as children in play.
