Looking to introduce beginners to hiking the majestic Mount Merbabu (3,145m) and exploring the wonders of Yogyakarta together in 1 trip!

Yogyakarta is an extremely popular tourist destination with the UNESCO heritage temples of Borobodur and Prambanan. Not just that, there are amazing outdoor activities and wondrous nature to explore. There is Mount Merapi (closed for now), Mount Merbabu, cave tubing, waterfalls etc.
We will trek Mount Merbabu (3,145m), which is a dormant stratovolcano, that overlooks Mount Merapi and Yogyakarta. To get a full experience, we will do a 2D1N camping trek via Suwanting.

At the top of Mount Merbabu, you will be rewarded with an amazing 360-degree unobstructed view of Mount Merapi as well as the other surrounding mountains in the region. One can see 7 significant peaks: Gunung Sumbing, Gunung Sindoro, the Dieng Plateau, Gunung Telomoyo, Gunung Ungaran, Gunung Merapi, and Gunung Lawu.

After which, we will descend to Selo to get one of the best viewpoints of Mount Merapi. The next day will be sightseeing around Yogyakarta, dependent on weather and how everyone feels!

Training will be organized and briefings to prepare you on packing, medicine etc will be conducted. Please note that although it is an extremely doable trek for first-timers or beginners, it will still be tiring. An open mindset is required =)

If interested, do RSVP or whatsapp. A whatsapp group will be set up to coordinate further details.

Who is this for?

This is for anyone who wishes to do some hiking and experience camping. It is suitable for first-timers or beginners as the trek is longer but not too overly strenuous. However, one is expected to walk 5-6 hours up and down for 2 days.

It is a step up from Ijen/Batur if one has done it before and similar to Mount Ophir in Malaysia.
