Highlights

Pristine white beaches, towering limestone cliffs, scenic mountains, mysterious caves, thriving wildlife, and crystal clear lagoons, this is El Nido.  How about exploring the world's longest underground river a UNESCO site at Puerto Princesa?  With so much packed in to see and experience, I believe this will be an amazing short weekend getaway, let's go!

My plan is to explore the bacuit bay, then island hop to those pristine beaches around El Nido, and finally to the longest underground river cave.  Sounds like a plan?

Puerto-Princesa Subterranean River National Park encompasses one of the world’s most impressive and longest underground water cave systems, spectacular limestone karst landscapes, pristine natural beauty, and old-growth forests thriving with distinctive wildlfe.

The national park is located in the Saint Paul Mountain Range on the western coast of the island. It is bordered by St. Paul Bay to the north and the Babuyan River to the east.  In 2010, a group of environmentalists and geologists discovered that the underground river has a second floor, which means that there are small waterfalls inside the cave. They also found a cave dome measuring 300m above the underground river, rock formations, large bats, a deep water hole in the river, more river channels, another deep cave, as well as marine creatures and more. Deeper areas of the underground river are almost impossible to explore due to oxygen deprivation.
